Change in the Present Moment

Underlying Thoughts of people:

„But those who constantly need something new do not accept the present moment.“

There is a difference between unconscious craving and conscious curiosity to embrace change. These two states couldn’t be more different. Unconscious craving often arises from the desire to feel better—whether through possessions, a relationship, or achieving a goal. It creates the impression that something external is necessary to find contentment. Yet, this feeling stems from our own thinking. It is our mind telling us that we need something outside ourselves to be internally balanced.

When we rush from one experience to the next, there’s little room to truly perceive the here and now. Often, our thoughts are already on the next step, preventing us from consciously experiencing the present moment. Instead of being present and shaping our lives intentionally, our thoughts chase the idea that the peace or satisfaction we seek is waiting for us elsewhere—outside of ourselves. But the peace we are searching for is already within us. The challenge lies in pausing and consciously perceiving it, rather than seeking it externally.

My Experience

For a long time, I was also speeding through life. One goal followed the next, and I was constantly searching for the next adventure, always hoping that checking off another experience would bring me happiness. But all of it was merely a game of my mind. I wasn’t aware of how much my thoughts controlled me. Instead of living in the moment, I followed the urge to keep moving forward—without pausing to ask myself what I truly wanted.

Today, things are different. Now, I know exactly what I want to do, how to accomplish it, and when the right time is. I make conscious decisions and let myself be guided by curiosity about new opportunities rather than the feeling of needing to achieve something to be happy. By consciously observing my thoughts, I can direct them. My focus is no longer on „needing“ something. Instead, I do what is necessary to feel balanced inside—without losing sight of the present moment. I enjoy the moment while also finding joy in what I do.

Do This

The „need“ being referred to is the unconscious longing for things or people from your external world to feel good about yourself. Yet, in this pursuit, the peace already present in everything—and within you—is overlooked. Accept the present moment and find fulfillment in it, even as many aspects of your life change.

You can consciously design your life as you wish and still enjoy the moment. These two things are not mutually exclusive—be aware of this. Be at peace with yourself and consciously perceive the here and now to actively shape your life. This is not about unconscious craving, but rather understanding: everything you experience externally can be let go of again.

Be curious and explore the world in your own way. Discover what brings you joy and fulfillment. At that moment, you will recognize not only the abundance within yourself but also the variety and opportunities available in the present moment. You will understand that you can shape your life in the here and now exactly as you consciously envision it. Embrace change, but enjoy the journey and the present moment.

Reflect on these Questions:

  • Why am I already rushing toward the next goal?
  • When do I believe I will finally be happy?
  • Why can’t I already be at peace with myself in this moment?
  • What is stopping me from embracing change?
