Live in the Now or Set Goals?

Thoughts from Others:

“The one true goal is to live in the here and now, to recognize oneself, and to grow from it. Or is that what you mean?”

The true purpose of our lives lies in the diversity of our thoughts and the conscious shaping of our existence. Each person is responsible for deciding whether to set clear goals or to live fully in the present moment. However, fulfillment is often found in the balance between the two: aligning with future goals while mindfully experiencing the present. Our minds enable us to consciously set objectives and simultaneously embrace the richness of the current moment.

Yet, focusing too much on one side leads to imbalance: either we become trapped in the here and now, losing the power to shape our lives, or we rush endlessly from one goal to the next, failing to appreciate the moment. The key lies in harmoniously and consciously integrating both. We can enjoy the present while enriching our lives with goals, without letting either cause physical or mental stress. This conscious balance adds depth and meaning to our lives.

Personal Experience

Throughout my life, I intuitively seized the opportunities that came my way in the moment – often unconsciously. I dreamed of what I wanted, manifested my desires, and soon they appeared in my life. On this journey, I experienced not only joyful but also painful moments that pushed me to rediscover myself time and again.

Over time, I realized that everything I do or judge is guided by my own thoughts. Today, I live in the moment with full awareness, while still setting goals. These goals are not rigid but represent meaningful moments I aspire to achieve. I act in the present to lay the foundation for a life that I continuously redefine and create for myself.

Approach

The present moment and the ability to set goals are essential aspects of human existence. Each of us is responsible for our thoughts, judgments, and perceptions of ourselves, others, and life as a whole. Whether you focus on goals or remain mindful of the present depends on your mindset and inner perspective. But wouldn’t it be possible to combine both? Couldn’t this balance be the foundation for a fulfilling life?

Take a moment to reflect on these questions:

  • Am I missing something if I focus solely on the present moment?
  • How can I give more attention to experiencing the present moment?
  • Do I believe it is wrong to set goals? If so, why do I still act on them?
  • What can I do to fully embrace the present moment while also making new plans for the future?
